Five years ago, Sarah Mastracco moved to her Cutchogue home permanently and began using her culinary background to sell plant-based meals for pickup. The community’s positive reaction prompted her to make a long-percolating dream official: the grab-and-go gourmet mini-mecca Flavor Fork (402 1st St., Greenport, 631-477-5042), which opened its doors in May to a hungry, appreciative audience.

Mastracco’s life has always been about food, starting with home-cooked meals from her mother and, later in her career, working alongside acclaimed chefs like Martha Stewart, Bobby Flay and Emeril Lagasse. And of course, via the best kind of learning — the type that comes from traveling the world, discovering and falling in love with one new flavor at a time.

Flavor Fork offers the perfect mix of inspiration for bringing new tastes to the North Fork. Here are a few of our pantry faves:

1. Brian Burgess Ceramics, $15. These pinch bowls are a simple yet stunning way to hold new spices. Made in Greenport, the designs and soft glazes are inspired by our coastal landscape.

2. Vine Street Café’s Heirloom Tomato Sauce, $16. This small-batch sauce, a staple at Flavor Fork, features heirloom tomatoes harvested at peak ripeness on Shelter Island. It’s vegan, gluten-free and has no preservatives, which lets the natural flavors shine.

3. Flavor Fork’s Chili Pepp Crunch, $16. Mastracco’s creation adds a crisp spice to bowls, burgers, eggs, noodles, salad and tacos. Umami, golden-fried shallots, garlic and cracked black pepper bring the boldness, while coconut aminos creates savory sweetness.

4. Milla’s Puffs, $10. Ludmilla “Milla” Benevides brought this Portuguese snack, biscotto de polvilho — or yuca sticks — to Long Island. These crisp, airy bites have wholesome ingredients like tapioca flour, extra-virgin olive oil, milk, eggs and Himalayan pink salt.

5. Flavor Fork’s House Vinaigrette, $12. This blend of Dijon mustard, extra-virgin olive oil, honey, Mediterranean spices and sweet white-wine vinegar is a feast for the senses and can be used as a dressing or marinade.

6. Ayoh’s Giardiniera Mayonnaise, $8. Mastracco describes this mayo by cookbook author and recipe developer Molly Baz as “fiesta in a jar — creamy, crunchy and unapologetically bold.” Veggies, various spices and vinegar give it a unique taste.

7. Flavor Fork’s Mediterranean Salt Blend, $8. A true kitchen staple thanks to its balance of flaky sea salt, kosher salt, thyme, oregano, garlic, onion, and mushroom umami powder. The blend works great as an elevated salt alternative.
