Scott Sumner, regional manager of The Harbor Front Inn (209 Front St., Greenport, 631-477-0707) has been pulled in a lot of directions these days, dividing his eagle-eye attention between a million big and small details — installing a spiffy brass magazine rack for guests, picking up electric rental cars for a collaboration with Moke, or making sure the newly installed wine bar is stocked and ready to go.
Sumner, along with the rest of the team at the Greenport boutique hotel, is indeed very busy lately, putting the finishing touches on the property’s major update, which debuted in June right in time for Summer 2025.
“We knew going in when we acquired it that it needed a renovation,” Sumner says. “We took some time putting together design direction. We wanted to take the property and connect it more to the village’s seafaring routes.”
In November 2019, Eagle Point Hotel Partners acquired the property and immediately drafted ideas for changes that needed to be made, however the COVID-19 pandemic brought the team’s plans to a screeching halt.
“We unfortunately had to hit the pause button,” says Sumner. “This is really the first time where all the stars aligned where we could pick the project back up and really get it done.”
Some of the remodel features include 39 rooms and suites with fresh decor, furnishings and lighting along with bath amenities by the brand Red Flower and Italian linens from Mascioni.

The heated outdoor pool has a redesigned deck with new outdoor furniture, creating a resort-like feel.
Upon entering the space, guests step into the refurbished lobby, which now sports a roomy gathering area and a nautical look.
“It’s also a very comfortable space where conversations [can be had] and connections can be made,” says Sumner.
Later this month The Harbor Front Inn plans to unveil its intimate lobby wine bar with a coastal European feel, offering 19 bar seats and four tables.
Continuing with wine-centric traditions on the North Fork, the hotel is teaming up with Macari Vineyards (150 Bergen Ave., Mattituck, 631-298-0100) to offer the ‘Harbor Nights + Vineyard Days’ package. This allows guests to book a one-night stay in a refreshed room or suite and receive a $100 gift card to the Mattituck vineyard, along with a complimentary bottle of Macari’s White Label Rosé.
“As the summer season’s upon us, more guests are looking for unique, bespoke experiences that they can take advantage of,” says Sumner.
Another partnership provides the opportunity for visitors to rent an electric vehicle with the company Moke. By scanning a QR code in the hotel or on the dashboard of a Moke car on property, customers can pick a time slot and take an onsite vehicle for a spin.
“It’s one of those things like ‘Oh my god, I’ve got to do this, like vacation spur of the moment, this is fun,’ and they just take off and go,” says Sumner. “You can go visit a vineyard, you can take it to the beach, you can go to Shelter Island with it. It’s just a fun way to explore.”
Other small additions like more artwork from local creators and ensuite collaborations will continue to thrill people planning to stay at this North Fork spot.
“It’s a lot of little touches that ultimately compound into this very memorable getaway,” says Sumner. “You can travel anywhere, and the destination helps, but the experience is what you’re going to ultimately walk away remembering.”
