Custer Institute and Observatory (Photo credit: Jeremy Garretson)

When TRMG digital editor Angela Colangelo first told me about her love of astronomy, I hoped we could find a way to leverage that interest into some kind of story. Angela took to the stars with her story about the Custer Observatory, exploring how the starry-eyed folks at Custer explore the cosmos from Southold. In addition to seeing some of the incredible technology on display, Angela learned the history of the observatory, too.

While spending time at the observatory, Angela also found a group of self-proclaimed “nerds” in the Peconic Amateur Radio Club, who call the observatory home. Pull your eyes away from the stars to take a little revisit of Colangelo’s wonderful story (or listen to our chat about the story here!).
