Get ready to lose yourself in a blooming sea of golden petals — the eagerly anticipated sunflower maze at Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farm in Baiting Hollow is now open for the season.
The cherished tradition originated in 2019, after owner Jeff Rottkamp came across the concept at a farm in Florida. “I did a trial run with free admission and people liked it, so I made it more official in 2020,” he explained.
This year, admission to the maze is priced at $6 per person, and children under 5 can enter for free. Weather permitting, the maze welcomes visitors daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with wristbands granting access throughout the entire day.
As you wander through the radiant fields, you’ll discover a variety of fun photo ops, from large family-sized picture frames to a repurposed hay ride wagon that serves as a lookout point.
To ensure an extensive sunflower maze season, Rottkamp strategically plants multiple fields, staggering their bloom times. He plans to keep the sunflower maze open until early September, with a brief hiatus in mid-August.
In addition to the sunflower maze, there’s a farm stand on-site where you can acquire locally grown produce, enjoy some freshly roasted corn and take home a bouquet of sunshine of your own. The farm has also added an ice cream shack this year where you can order refreshing soft-serve to cool you off after wandering the sunny fields.
