On the Summer solstice, the longest day of the year, a lively crowd picnicked along the New Suffolk Waterfront, watching as a fleet of sailboats competed in an informal race around Robins Island. These mid-week sailing events, known as “Wednesday night races,” have been a cherished weekly tradition for decades, bringing together both sailors and the New Suffolk community. As the race was underway, families and friends relished the occasion, bringing along baskets filled with farm-fresh strawberries and bottles of sparkling wine to commemorate the official arrival of summer.
