Best of the North Fork: Readers select their favorite places to ‘live and breathe’ here

The North Fork’s parks and beaches — and the open waters that surround us — are among the biggest draws here. This is an area where the sunsets seem a little brighter, the air a little saltier. A vacation spot you won’t soon forget.

This July we asked our readers to select their favorite favorite places to “live and breathe” here as part of our Best of the North Fork series.

This month, several thousand readers, cast their votes from a list of favorites compiled by our staff.

From waking up on the water at the Sound View in Greenport to shopping at Mint in Mattituck or taking in live music by Gene Casey and the Lone Sharks, the results show northforker readers really know how to have a good time.

We had a few double winners pop up once again as Orient Beach State Park, one of the few swimming spots open too all visitors of the North Fork, was chosen as the Best Beach and Best Park; The Giving Room in Southold was named Best Yoga or Pilates Studio after being Best Spot for Healthy Eating a day earlier; and yesterday’s Best Brewery, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company in Peconic and Greenport, was also voted the Best Live Music Space.

Some of the winners were decided by just a handful of votes like Peconic’s In the Attic Too narrowly edging the also worthy pick of Times Vintage in Greenport as the Best Vintage Shop. We even had a tie for Best Home Decor Shop among two shops even we confuse: The Weathered Barn in Greenport and White Flower Farmhouse in Southold.

Others were chosen in a landslide, like Island’s End in Greenport being named Best Public Golf Course.
