When winter comes along, we hunker down, trying to make our homes feel as cozy and warm as possible to get us through the snowy season. Now, spring has arrived and it’s time to open windows, dust off shelves and bring some life back into our spaces.

We chatted with Norine Penacchia of touchGOODS Lighting and Design in Southold and Amanda Giuliano of Nicolette’s for the Home about easy, simple ways to bring some spring feeling into your North Fork home.

What are some easy, simple ways to spruce up the home decor for the spring season?

NP: Think fresh! Lighten up! Use this opportunity to declutter your home and even rearrange furniture. Try existing furnishings in new spots and removing clutter.

AG: Swapping our florals around the home with pastel tones is an easy way to make a space pop and incorporate those tones in pillows and throws too. Also, don’t be afraid to swap out area rugs or mats to blend your new look.

Are there any spring decorating trends people can hop on?

NP: Yes! If there’s one thing we’re not afraid of it’s color — add a splash with an accent wall, an affordable and simple way to transform your interior space. Or, keep it monochromatic, but add some texture with board and batten or decorative panels to give it a little extra something to help it stand out.

AG: Blush tones mixed with olive greens and deep plums are very in! For people who love blue and cool tones, soft pale blues paired with deep navys and those olive green tones are the alternate color palette. It’s the mixture of jewel tones with pastels. You’ll also see lots of yellow and olive and sage greens trending.

What are some ways people can bring the beautiful warm weather feeling of spring indoors? What are some ways to decorate with florals?

NP: Wicker and rattan. These natural materials add warmth and lightness to any space. Switch out the heavier formal objects with tropical and breezy rattan pieces. Floral removable wallpaper. Try it on an accent wall, behind bookshelves or above a chair rail. An instant bouquet for your home!

AG: Tulips just embody spring! I love eucalyptus too. It’s a great staple greenery to add to any arrangement. Daisys are also a beautiful spring flower. Those florals in any home makes you feel like summer is right around the corner.
