Each week, we will be spotlighting a different farm stand on the North Fork as more open up. Fink’s Country Farm open air market is open everyday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Wading River.

Name: Fink’s Country Farm

History: Sophie and Edward Fink purchased some property in Wading River and began farming together in the 1940s. Fink’s Farm Stand ran from the 1960s and through the late 1990s. Their son Tom Fink helped farm the land for several years before marrying his wife Kathryn in 1974 and purchasing their own farm nearby. Tom’s dream was to share his love of farming with his wife and their four children. This dream was short-lived, when tragedy struck the Fink family in 1983. Tom was killed in a truck accident on his way home from the market. Kathryn Fink tried her hardest to keep things going and ran her own stand, Kathi’s Place, for several years. In 2000, she decided to close the stand, and a few years later, she sold off most of their land. It wasn’t until years later that her son, David, brought farming back into the family. He, along with his wife Michelle, purchased and adopted many farm animals and began farming the little land his family had left. In 2008, they decided to lease back the family farm, and in 2015, they were able to purchase back the family’s farm, and are the third generation of Finks to own and operate the farm stand in Wading River.

What they offer: Tomatoes, watermelons, cantaloupe, honey dew, corn, sunflowers, eggplant and more.

What they will offer: pumpkins, gourds, winter squash, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale and more.
