Think of it as a bucket list you have a month to complete. Only we promise, you’ll still be alive at the end of it.

Or maybe you’d prefer to view it as a 30-day scavenger hunt with no one keeping score.

However you want to approach it, we figured that as we enter our fourth year as a guide to the North Fork we’d try something new this month, recommending an activity for each day of June.  

Some of these suggestions are one-time events. Some repeat each week. Others can be done on any day or at any time. A few even require hopping on a ferry to Shelter Island.

Wednesday, June 1

Welcome in June with $3 drinks during Happy Hour at the Old Mill Inn. Enjoy local craft beer and wine, along with a cocktail of the week. Special runs daily through the summer.

Thursday, June 2

Have a picnic at Indian Island County Park. You can bring your goodies ready-to-serve or use one of their charcoal grills for your meal. Take a hike through the wooded trails, stroll the beach, play volleyball, fly a kite or use the multiple playgrounds available for the kids. Oh yeah, there’s even a golf course.

Friday, June 3

First Fridays returns to Love Lane in Mattituck from 6 to 9 p.m. Shop and enjoy tastes from Love Lane Kitchen, Lombardi’s, Roanoke Vineyards and more. Repeats all summer.

The 139-foot replica ship ‘America’ will be docked in Greenport June 9 and 10 and will provide educational opportunities and tours of the boat for local children.

The 37th annual Shelter Island 10K run will be held in the center of town at 5:30 p.m. The event includes the Shelter Island Plus 5K race/walk and community fun walk for kids.
