The space has sat empty for three years, but now residents waiting to see what would eventually replace the former Amarelle restaurant in Wading River finally have an answer.
Arturo Ramirez and his wife Christina bought the 3,740-square-foot property last December for $720,000, according to public records. They say they plan to open a new restaurant, Fiesta Mexicana, by mid-March.
The former Amarelle, a fine dining restaurant headed by chef Lia Fallon which received positive press from Newsday and The New York Times, closed in January 2013 after Fallon suffered injuries in a car crash.
Signs have gone up announcing that the new restaurant is coming soon to Wading River’s historic business district. It will seat about 60 people and serve authentic Mexican cuisine, Ms. Ramirez said.
“We are going to have authentic dishes like enchiladas and flautas, all the traditional authentic Mexican foods,” she said.
The owners hope to eventually have outdoor seating as well.
Fiesta Mexicana joins two other eateries serving Mexican dishes.
A Senor Taco franchise opened on Route 25A last year. Mesquite, a Tex-Mex restaurant, opened in 2014, next door to where Fiesta Mexicana is planned.
As the sign hanging outside the new eatery reads, stay tuned.
