Oenophiles are invited to meet the winemaker and taste the wines at Palmer Vineyards later this month.

New York Wine Events is hosting a tasting tour at the Riverhead vineyard as the first in its “Meet the Winemaker, Taste the Wines” series on Saturday Aug. 29 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The event comes on the heels of the successful North Fork Crush event at Jamesport Vineyards in June, which was also hosted by New York Wine Events. An estimated 700 people traveled to that vineyard for that event to sample the wines of more than 20 wine producers, according to organizers.

“We’re very excited about it,” New York Wine Events cofounder Sam Kimball said of the August event. “It’s much different than the large festival-style event. Our audience loves wine education. And when you get wine education directly from the winemaker, that’s a special experience.”

Palmer winemaker Miguel Martin will lead a tour of the vineyard and winery and attendees will sample six wines including his 2014 chardonnay, 2014 sauvignon blanc, 2014 merlot, 2014 cabernet franc, 2014 rosé of merlot and the sunrise sunset merlot. Each wine will be paired with a passed hors d’oeuvres prepared by chef Anna Aracri of Mobile Pie. Local oysters and clams from Harvest Moon Shellfish Co. will also accompany the wines.

Kimball noted there is a growing interest in these types of events on the East End from both his company’s core demographic as well as from Long Island winery owners.

Tickets are $59 per person and can be purchased at NewYorkWineEvents.com. Round-trip luxury bus tickets are available from midtown Manhattan for $109.
