Here are five North Fork events we recommend checking out this weekend. For more NoFo happenings, visit the northforker events page.

1. Cardboard Boat Race

The Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race floats on this Sunday, Aug. 23.

Registration for the race, now in its sixth year, begins at 9 a.m. Sunday. There is a hula hoop contest at 11:30 a.m. and the race, sponsored by the Riverhead BID and Riverhead Town, kicks off at noon.

All boats must have a name (so get creative) and all participants must wear an approved life vest.

The only other rule? Cardboard and duct tape are the only materials allowed to build the boats.

2. Harvest East End

Tickets are still available for this weekend’s eats and vino smorgasbord Dan’s Harvest East End.

Geoffrey Zakarian of Food Network’s “Chopped” will host the event. Guy Reuge, the James Beard Award-nominated chef of Stony Brook restaurant Mirabelle, and Jim Tresize, president of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, will be honored.

General admission tickets are $125 with entry at 7:30 p.m.

VIP tickets, with entry at 6:30 p.m., are available for $275 per person, $2,500 for a group of 10 or $3,000 for reserved seating for a group of 10.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit HRH Care, the Long Island Farm Bureau and Peconic Land Trust. The event is hosted by Dan’s Papers along with the Long Island Wine Council.
