Sure, the growing number of East End food trucks, like Rolling in Dough and Eat Me, Drink Me, have the food for you backyard affair covered.
But who will provide and man the kegs of Moustache Brewing Co. Everyman’s Porter or Lieb Cellars Chardonnay?
Enter Hook and Lager, a restored 1957 Seagrave Quint firetruck which offers beer, wine and cider kegs and taps out of its body.
“It has a very unique history to it,” said Hook and Lager owner Keith Kraus, 37, of Aquebogue. Kraus bought the truck, which was used to douse flames in East Tawas, MI more than 50 years, from a private owner in 2012. It features ten taps and a 75 foot ladder which Kraus said can be used to drape a movie screen from.
Most interest in the Cutchogue-based company is from people hosting birthday parties, rehearsal dinners and other private events, Kraus said.
Prices vary depending on how many taps and what kind of beverages the customer selects. Choices range from local brews, ciders and wines to offerings from mass production breweries and wineries.
“You can customize it to whatever you want,” Kraus said. “I couldn’t show up to a party at my house without Bud Light for my uncles. But my cousins want craft beer.”
The truck will be parked at Hotel Indigo East End on Sept. 20 as Kraus participates in the Long Island Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life.
And Hook and Lager will be at the Greenport Maritime Festival on Sunday, Sept. 21.
