Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. tapped the kegs at its much-anticipated Peconic tasting room and brewery Friday afternoon.
The parking lot might not have been completely paved yet and the bathrooms still need a few finishing touches, but that did not stop a healthy rainy Independence Day turnout. On tap for opening day were the brewery’s Harbor Ale, Black Duck Porter, Summer Ale, Otherside IPA and Citrus IPA.
“We’re pretty blown away,” said co-owner Rich Vandenburgh of the crowd. “I can’t believe I’m finally standing here, drinking a beer.”
Construction on the $4 million brewery at the former Lucas Ford dealership took more than two years.
“It’s been five years since we opened [the Greenport location] and we might have forgotten how much work it is,”
The company’s fifth anniversary party will be held at the Peconic location next Saturday, July 12.
