In the first round of Game of Hamlets to determine the best hamlet of the North Fork, tiny New Suffolk proved it had the charm to topple a giant in Southold.
But now, can New Suffolk get past the historic hamlet of Greenport, the the most popular commercial center on the North Fork? That’s the challenge facing New Suffolk in the quarterfinals of Game of Hamlets.
Greenport, the No. 1 seed in the Horton Region, cruised past No. 4 East Marion in the first round by taking 78 percent of the vote. There were about 3,700 votes in the first round.
The second round of voting features plenty of intriguing matchups:
In the Hallock Region, top-seeded Mattituck is facing No. 2 Jamesport.
In the Sylvester Region, top-seeded Shelter Island is facing No. 2 Orient.
In the Reeves Region, top-seeded Riverhead is facing No. 2 Wading River.
