The Village Cheese Shop owner Michael Affatato announced Wednesday he no longer has plans to open a new location in Greenport.

Affatato, who owns The Village Cheese Shop on Love Lane in Mattituck, said in an email the reasoning behind his decision was timing. In March, Affatato said he planned to open a second location at 19 Front Street in Greenport.

A handcrafted oak bar with seating for six will make way to enjoy some quality vino with your fromage during your next visit to The Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck.

Michael Affatato, who purchased the business from longtime owner Rosemary Batcheller in September, has recently received a permit to sell wine and beer at the Love Lane shop. Wine was available when Batcheller owned the store, though Affatato hopes to expand the offerings. (more…)

A Love Lane staple that offers a taste of Europe in Long Island Wine Country will soon have a new owner.

The Village Cheese Shop in Mattituck will officially change hands Sept. 15, when its original owner, Rosemary Batcheller, passes the store on to her friend Michael Affatato.

“The biggest question is, ‘Is it going to stay the same,’ ” Batcheller said during an interview at the shop. “And it is. But I think new eyes and new energy is never a bad thing.” (more…)
