Everyone loves convenience, right? The concept of home-delivered meals with fresh ingredients you can cook yourself has taken a little while to catch on. But with companies like Blue Apron and Hello Fresh doing so well, it seems as though it finally has.

And guess what? You can create your own versions right here on the North Fork. As a bonus, you get to know the people growing and raising your food.

These local purveyors actually encourage you to come and visit their farms so you can see the who, what and where. Many also offer everything you need to make a full meal, recipes included.

With the weather forecasted to stay consistently in the 50s next week and onward, it is time to embrace spring. Dare I say, we fared pretty darn well this winter. Certainly far better than the last two! (more…)

This year, the scallop season started Nov. 2 and goes until March.

So I checked in with one of my favorite fish mongers, Charlie Manwaring of Southold Fish Market, who tells us that this year’s bounty is different than last.

“They are not as abundant this year, however, they are scattered throughout the bay in shallow and deep water, which is a very, very good sign,” he said. (more…)

Nothing says it’s fall louder than apple cider and doughnts. I never thought I would find better ones than at Tice farms, located in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., which was a major part of my childhood (sigh.)

I’ve been on a mission to find a replacement since I moved to the East End and my search is finally over! They’re the best of the best in both categories apple cider and doughnuts — Breeze Hill Farm & Preserve in Peconic, N.Y. (more…)

Teddy Roosevelt Clarry is pretty much the cutest boy ever — well, of the four-legged furry boys, in all fairness.

We all love our animals and want to make sure we are doing the best that we can for them, especially as it relates to food. Now, the makers of Life is Gruff dog treats have taken over Harbor Pet and have recently moved to a much larger location in Greenport. (more…)
