During a storm, when the rain is beating down and the winds are whipping at the window, who doesn’t love a meal at a cozy restaurant?

That, along with the perfect dinner companion, makes for a warm evening no matter what mother nature has in store.

Here are my picks for a romantic, cozy North Fork meal that you won’t soon forget. And remember, when looking to add a little more spice to the night, it is oyster season.

Cooperage Inn,
2218 Sound Avenue, Calverton (631) 727-8994

With multiple fireplaces and an awesome fire pit, this cozy restaurant is great either on your way in to or out of the North or South Fork. With consistent food and a friendly staff, it hits the mark each time.

Bistro 72 at Hotel Indigo East End
1830 W. Main Street, Riverhead (631) 369-3325

With cozy sitting areas both indoors and out and fireplaces and heating lamps, this is a fun place to snuggle up.

Petulant Wino
739 Main Road, Aquebogue (631) 779-3900

It has a great atmosphere and recently received an excellent rating from The New York Times!  This is such a great spot, it will quickly become your go-to on a stormy night.

North Fork Table & Inn
57225 Main Road, Southold (631) 765-0177

I mean, what can I say about the number one-rated restaurant on Long Island that hasn’t already been said? I love eating up at the bar, but sitting by the fire is pretty darn special.

Blue Canoe Oyster Bar and Grill
104 3rd Street, Greenport (631) 477-6888

During stormy months, it’s pretty cozy inside. There is no fireplace, but it has a great atmosphere and some really yummy eats which make for a fun night.  Try their other restaurant, Vine Street Cafe on Shelter Island for a more romantic feel.

Frisky Oyster
27 Front Street, Greenport (631) 477-4265

Consistently on everyone’s “best of” list, Frisky nails the atmosphere factor no matter what the weather. But I’ve been there during many a storm and you simply can’t go wrong.

1943 Pizza Bar
308 D Main Street, Greenport (631) 477-6984

This little spot is crazy cozy. It’s perfect for a date night.  And you have got to try the meatballs! End of story.

Brix + Rye
308 A Main Street, Greenport

The sister restaurant to 1943 is conveniently located around the corner and is this perfect blend of creative cocktails and bar menu food.  They also have live music. This is the place to be.
