Pulaski Street might not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about Long Island’s top go-to places, but that’s where you’ll find “Long Island’s Hottest Bartender.”

Birchwood Taproom bartender Katy Groeber of Aquebogue recently won the contest sponsored by radio station WBAB, besting five other finalists from across Long Island.

The 31-year-old bartender graduated Summa Cum Laude from University of Hartford with a degree in illustration and has been working Birchwood for three years.

“It’s the best job I have ever had,” Ms. Groeber said. “Everyone here is like family and they encouraged me to do this.”

Ms. Groeber earned the coveted title and $5,000 cash by being the top vote getter after two rounds of competition with women from locations including Huntington, Stony Brook and Carle Place.

“My customers, family and friends are awesome,” she said. “I was so glad because [Birchwood] is such a small place and the other girls work at huge bars. I didn’t know if I could compete because they have so much customers, but my customers are loyal.”

The bar will receive some free advertising from Security Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep of Amityville as a result of the competition as well.

Meet “Long Island’s Hottest Bartender” at 512 Pulaski Street in Riverhead.
