His color photographs are exuberant celebrations of beauty and symmetry, while many of his black and white photos are studies of line, design and texture.

Now photographer James Furey is getting ready to show some of his pictures later this month at Clovis Point Vineyard in Jamesport. The exhibit opens on April 14.

“I don’t really have a theme,” he said. “I do a lot of landscapes, but the show will be a variety of things.”

Furey, who splits his time between Malverne and Shelter Island, has exhibited his work before on The Rock, where The Friends of the Shelter Island Public Library hosts an annual photography exhibit.

While always an avid amateur photographer, the now retired insurance attorney says he didn’t really start to take it seriously until recently.

“I started selling some of my pictures about five years ago and that’s when I realized that I can do this,” he said. “My wife and I always did a lot of traveling and I started taking snapshots back before digital photography. I dropped it for a while because life got so busy, but then I picked it up again.”

Furey’s work will be on display at Clovis Point Vineyard from April 14 to June 12. The photo exhibit is free.

Clovis Point is located at 1935 Main Road in Jamesport.
