North Fork Craft Gallery, a new Wading River store carrying the work of Long Island artisans, does not have an online store — and that’s for a few reasons.

One, many of the items are one-of-a-kind and the inventory frequently rotates.

But also, the shop’s owner feels customers will gain a better appreciation of the work by seeing them in person.

“To me, it’s really about the experience,” said owner Lyn Cooperman of Riverhead. “I really want people to come in and learn about the artists and hear about the process.” (more…)

Ina Visich Baiting Hollow

Ina Pollifrone-Visich discovered hot yoga while researching treatments for fibromyalgia, a chronic disorder she was diagnosed with more than a year ago. The 27-year-old native of Belarus found that stretching under steamy conditions alleviated her symptoms, including headaches and fatigue.

The only problem? It was tiring to make the trek from Baiting Hollow, where she resides, to her favorite studio, Buddha Beach Yoga in East Moriches.

So Pollifrone-Visich decided to open a hot vinyasa studio closer to home. (more…)

wildwood State Park

Wildwood State Park in Wading River will soon offer overnight stays in cabins, the New York State Parks Department announced last week.

Construction on 10 units will begin next year and the cabins are expected to open by the 2018 season. The buildings, along with cottages built at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, are the first indoor accommodations offered by Long Island state parks. Wildwood currently only offers sites for tents and trailers. (more…)

Fiesta Mexicana Wading River

After nearly a year of planning, construction and delays, Fiesta Mexicana restaurant in Wading River will open tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 1.

The business is owned and operated by the Ramirez family, who owns a series of Fiesta Mexicanas across the country, including California, Texas and North Carolina. This is their first restaurant on Long Island.

“We have a lot of uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters involved in the business,” said Christina Ramirez, one of the managers at the Wading River eatery. “We work together as a team. That’s why we call it a corporation — because it involves a lot of people.” (more…)
