Slow Food East End invites you to Walk and Wine at the gorgeous Peconic River Herb Farm, a boutique-style specialty plant nursery located on 14 landscaped and wild acres along River Road, Calverton, NY.
Join us for a walking tour of the property with herbalist and master farmer Melissa Mapes and for a Macari Vineyards wine tasting with Gabriella Macari. Enjoy this peaceful shady, oasis, home to hundreds of specimens along the Peconic River, while it’s closed to the public. Melissa will take us on a foraging tour of the property to discover seasonal edible and therapeutic herbs. Along the walk enjoy tasting stations for wines and herbal waters. Following the walk will be a continuation of the wine tasting of Macari wines plus continued discussion with Melissa about edible and therapeutic uses for commonly found local herbs and with Gabriella about how important herbs are for the holistic approach the winery takes raising their grapes. Herbs are a core component of the winery’s complex composting program.
