The North Fork has a long history of farm labor camps that were home to southern-born Black men and women. One of the very last camps was on Depot Lane in Cutchogue. Former Newsday photographer Viorel Florescu took scores of photographs inside the camp, capturing the work being done and the residents themselves. Twenty five of these pictures will be on display in the Upstairs Gallery.
Suffolk Times executive editor Steve Wick, who worked with Florescu on documenting the camp will give the presentation. A reception in the Upstairs Gallery will follow. Registration is required. Entry is free and the event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
