The Music Masters Intensive is an annual program designed to accelerate students’ musical development through concentrated learning. Over the course of five rehearsal sessions, selected students work with an expert musician to hone skills in performance, composition, and music theory. The program focuses yearly on a new musical genre each year, giving students the opportunity to explore a wide range of styles—from jazz to classical to contemporary. This intensive format prepares students for future opportunities, such as college auditions, scholarships, or professional performances. The final concert gives the group a public performance opportunity that can not only be enjoyed by the community but also be filmed for auditions and social use.
The 2025 Music Master is Dr. Frank Hansen, a professional musician since the age of 14 and an educator with over 35 years of experience who holds a doctorate in music history. He has built numerous music programs and currently leads jazz ensembles and orchestras in Commack. Dr. Hansen has performed with legendary artists such as Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, and Yo-Yo Ma. Dr. Hansen has chosen jazz as this year’s focal genre, a music college favorite.
