About
North Fork favorite father-son duo Sam Shaffery (mandolin) and Tom Shaffery (African drums) have been performing jazz-influenced modern and traditional Americana on Eastern Long Island since 2015.
Tom has been playing African drums since the early 1970s, having studied under the late great Nigerian drummer, Babatunde Olatunji.
Sam has developed a unique style on the electric mandolin, drawing inspiration from esteemed mandolinists and guitarists including Jerry Garcia, Bob Dylan, David Grisman, Michael Kang, and Trey Anastasio.
Sam and Tom combine their musical talents to create a compelling hybrid style potentially describable as Afro-elecro-Americana: instantly familiar, subtle yet complex and drawing from some of the best of 20th and 21st century American music.
