About

Celebrating Women’s History Month with a strong group of Women of Song. Joining us to share their original works are Claudia Jacobs, Kathy Patterson, Annie Mark, Robbie Harte, and Meghan VK.

In order to protect those who may need it, we ask the audience to wear their masks while indoors.

Heartbreaking one moment, rambunctiously disarming the next, Claudia Jacobs is a rare combination of soulful singer, heartfelt poet and spirited entertainer; few
performers can fill a stage as completely.   Part Folk Singer, part Bluesy Mama; she writes and sings songs about the human experience simply and honestly; addressing joy, pain, injustice, loneliness an  hope with sass and humor.

Born in Northport on Long Island, she is one of those difficult-to-categorize artists.  She draws inspiration from multiple styles including blues, folk, Americana, rock, R&B,  and Jazz. Awarded the title  “Long Island’s Favorite Soul Singer” by the Long Island Press, “A Hard-Core Angel” by a fan and “One of the New York area’s finest female singer-songwriters…” by WFUV’s John Platt; she has shared the stage with many folk favorites and is winning new fans everyday from Maine to Minnesota.

Annie Mark, a New York based singer-songwriter, has shared her country-tinged Americana-roots music with audiences from Florida to Ireland, and most recently, Nashville. A New York native, she moved to the South at age 10, where upon hearing the music of the Carter Family and Johnny Cash, she nurtured a life-long love of traditional country music and songs that convey slice-of-life stories about people’s lives with a heartfelt simplicity.

Kathy Patterson is a local singer/guitarist playing pubs and restaurants on Long Island as a single, duet or trio act. She has worked with many different styles and genres for over 40 years, including playing guitar and singing with her husband Frank Patterson on percussion in their duet The Pattersons, and with Greg Seck in
their trio Cover Stories , performing specialty acts at benefits and tribute shows, fronting a traditional Celtic band, and sitting in with a bluegrass band on banjo. Primarily a singer and guitar player, Kathy performs acoustic versions of pop, folk, rock and Irish tunes, as well as some of her own original works. Come out to Folkfest on 3/20 and catch her act!

Robbie Harte is a New York-based singer/songwriter, originally from Montreal, Canada. Her unique style is described by fans as compelling, inspirational, and powerful.

As a young girl, Robbie always dreamed of being a professional singer. But that dream was put on hold Thirteen years ago after a life-changing injury left her in chronic pain, resulting in the loss of her ability to sing. Ultimately however, it was music that helped her heal the most. She credits music for soothing her soul
and giving her the strength and determination to push through, even during the most difficult times. It was music that gave Robbie a voice, which she is now determined to use to uplift and inspire.

Four years ago, Robbie was compelled to follow her dream to sing, no matter how difficult it may be. She was inspired and
motivated by the desire to show her young daughter (who was diagnosed with Autism) that a disability should never stop her from chasing her dreams.  Her soulful voice and heartfelt original songs connect with listeners everywhere.

She released her highly-acclaimed holiday single, “Home Is Wherever You Are”  in November 2020, Followed by her Debut EP, “I of the Storm”  out in December 2020. Robbie recently released singles “Outside My Window” and “Jingle Bell Rock”. Her single “Handle With Care” was released January 10th 2022. Robbie is currently in studio working on new music coming in 2022!

With a sound that’s both familiar and fresh, offering soul woven with nostalgic callbacks to Reba and Dolly, New York based Meghan VK brings a powerful and natural vibrato to each and every song.

Her most recent single, “The Hearse” was placed on Ty Bentli’s Daily Soundtrack Playlist (The Ty Bentli Show; Apple music) and Ty was quoted as saying, “It (The Hearse) had me leaning in to hear every word.  The music played out like a movie scene – well crafted, interesting, introspective and empathetic.  Beautifully written, Meghan!” – Ty Bentli (Ty Bentli Show; Apple Music)

Endorsed by local radio station My Country 96.1 FM, with a committed place in their national artist summer shows at BHMHC Amphitheater, Meghan has opened for acts such as Chris Stapleton, Dierks Bentley, and many others. Through her music, she hopes to connect with her audience through the mediums she’s most passionate about—song, story, and strength.

Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space
and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the community center, and a 50/50 raffle
will be held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
