About

Long Island is home to so much talent, why not celebrate our home? Join us at the Moriches Community Center for songs that reflect our island. We have two duos – Butterfly Cody Acoustic duo is returning, and joining us for the first time, Simple Days.  Also performing we have new to us performer Linda Sussman. We welcome Josie Bello back to our stage. We are very excited to have a “founding” artist Robert Bruey joining us again. This is a strong lineup of local talent that you don’t want to miss.

Simple Days is a suburban Long Island music duo. Performances showcase Dusty’s unique lyrical perspective as heard in his original songwriting, which will hopefully tickle your ear and allow you to ponder.  Dusty and LoriAnn mix it up by switching lead and harmony vocals, and guitar and bass playing.  You may stumble upon Simple Days as they frequent open mics, farmers markets, churches, basements, flea markets, and backyard gatherings! simpledaysinfo.com

Butterfly Cody Acoustic Duo consists of Sharon and Doug Attridge. They are a musical duo from Mattituck.Married since 1995, the duo plays rock, country and blues with eclectic twist. Their unique blend of Doug’s vocals and guitar along with Sharon’s “in the pocket” bass has been wowing audiences on both forks. When not working as a duo they can be found performing in the “Butterfly Cody Experience” and “The Lindsey Reeve Band.” Doug also performs with his brother in “Who Are Those Guys”. visit the Butterfly Cody Experience Facebook page.

Linda Sussman is an award-winning singer-songwriter of alternative-folk & blues, with songs ranging from heartache and triumphs to calls for social justice. Her music can be heard on radio programs across the US and abroad, and she has played numerous stages, ranging from NYC’s iconic The Bitter End to Brooklyn Pride in Prospect Park to the more intimate Radio Bean in Burlington, VT. According to radio host Ron Cooke (KTAL), “Linda makes songs worth listening to. She makes the personal universal and the universal personal.” Over the past five years, she has released four full-length albums and a handful of singles, most recently “Shake It Loose Today” (album, 2022) and “Don’t Let It Rain” (single, 2023). Find Linda Sussman’s music on all streaming—Spotify, YouTube, Pandora, BandCamp, etc. https://LindaSussman.com

Josie Bello’s music is pure Americana— blending folk, country & blues to tell stories with lyrics and melodies that have resonated with listeners across the U.S. and in Europe.  Her songs are “…grounded in truth and speaking from the heart.” (Americana Highways) Josie’s three studio albums have appeared on domestic and international radio charts with every track having been played on the radio somewhere.  She performs in and around Long Island and runs several local open mics. She co-hosts the successful SongBreak series which spotlights songwriters of local and national prominence. She resides in Huntington with her husband Frank Bello and their dog Spunky.  You can find her at JosieBello.com, on all the streaming platforms and on social media sites.

Singer-songwriter and fingerstyle guitarist Robert Bruey grew up in rural New England and lives on Long Island’s North Fork. His roots and how they have helped to shape him are reflected in the original music on his recently released CD, ‘Carousel’ and are even more evident during a live performance.

Robert Bruey’s music is honest and real, raw and meaningful, gritty and naturalistic.  His unique finger-picking style — with notes carefully left alone to be heard in the moment — provides a perfect complement for his earthy, soulful voice and the meaningful, introspective lyrics of his songs.  Robert paints with words, imbuing his songs with imagery that enables listeners to visualize his stories as he sings them.

Folkie Fest offers an ongoing concert series with local acoustic artists in the spirit of folk music as envisioned by the late Pete Seeger. We provide a listening space and support live, local, singer/songwriters sharing their original work. A portion of the proceeds are donated to the community center, and a 50/50 raffle is held to benefit Long Island Cares: The Harry Chapin Food Bank.
