The 1731 Series, which brings internationally recognized musicians to perform at
the Jamesport Meeting House, will present the incomparable duo of
Cuban-American cellist Dr. Tommy Mesa and globally-acclaimed pianist Ilya
Yakushev on Saturday, January 24 at 4 p.m. The program for this
extraordinary concert features Sonata for Cello and Piano by Claude Debussy;
Sonata for Cello and Piano No 3., Op. 69 by Ludwig van Beethoven; and Sonata
for Cello and Piano, Op. 19 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Concert tickets are $20 and
include a reception with the artists following the performance.
Dr. Mesa is the recipient of Lincoln Center’s 2025 Avery Fisher Career Grant and
the Sphinx Organization’s 2023 Medal of Excellence, its highest honor. He has
performed as a soloist at the U.S. Supreme Court and with major orchestras
including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra, The
Philadelphia Orchestra and many others.
The American Record Guide calls Ilya Yakushev one of the very best young pianists before the public today…” He has performed in prestigious venues worldwide including Carnegie Hall, Sejong Performing Arts Center in Seoul, Great Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg and Victoria Hall in Singapore. His orchestral performances include the San Francisco Symphony, The BBC Concert Orchestra, the Boston Pops and several others.
