Arden Scott Solo Exhibition at VSOP Projects
July 20 @ 6:00 pm - August 25 @ 5:00 pm| Free
VSOP Projects is pleased to present Aids to Navigation, a solo exhibition of ambitious new sculptural works by Arden Scott. Complex welded, forged, and hand-painted steel sculptures, some standing nearly 12 feet tall, are primarily constructed from salvaged shipbuilding materials. This body of work, made in the past 3 years, are driven by Ms. Scott’s deep connection to lore, mythology, and stories of the sea. A diversion from her previous sculptural works, which bore formal resemblance to sailboats and ice gliders, the works in Aids to Navigation have far stronger figurative and architectural characteristics.
Arden Scott is a beloved Long Island artist who has been working from her Greenport studio for nearly 4 decades. Now into her 80s and still a ferocious producer, Arden exhibited with OK Harris Gallery in the 1970s and 1980s, was included in the 1973 Whitney Biennial, and most recently, staged large-scale installations with Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, the Southampton Arts Center, and at the Market Art + Design fair with VSOP Projects.
We invite you all to join us for an Opening Reception with the artist on Saturday, July 20 from 6-8pm. It is a tremendous honor for us to host this important exhibition and hope that many of you will take the opportunity to celebrate Arden and her recent work with us.
