Listed among Forbes Magazine’s top 50 places to visit in 2023, Riverhead has seen an uptick in new businesses opening downtown this year, and the restaurant scene is expanding right alongside it. Here are four establishments we’re excited to try this year.
La Perla

The first to open on this list, La Perla Restaurant Bar and Grill is Riverhead’s newest multicultural restaurant. Located on Main Street, they specialize in Hispanic, Italian and American cuisine. Serving the best of tacos, soups, pizza and chicken wings, La Perla has something for everyone. Find more information on their Facebook page.
Opened: January 13
Mugs on Main

After nearly 15 years, downtown Riverhead will once again have a coffee shop. Offering hot and cold beverages, as well as their own twist on classic lattes, Mugs on Main will include indoor and outdoor seating for guests to enjoy their coffee or tea. More information will be posted on their website.
Opening: April 2023
Mr. Diggins

Moving into the space formerly occupied by Luchacubano, classic American fast food will be done right at Mr. Diggins. The menu will showcase the best mudslide milkshakes, shoestring french fries and bacon-loaded burgers. This restaurant is the newest venture for restauranteur Marc Lamaina, owner of Lucharitos. The name is inspired by the original Diggins restaurant in Greenport, which opened in 1980. Check for updates on their Facebook page.
Opening: Summer 2023
Takkii Ramen

The privately owned Pennsylvania-based noodle house chain is making their way to Riverhead. The menu will offer a mix of ramen dishes, rice bowls and pub food. They already have one Long Island location in Syosset. Find more information on their website.
Opening: Fall 2023
