We’re a bit strawberry-crazy here at the northforker as June has arrived, bringing the ruby red treasures with it.

At Golden Earthworm Organic Farm in Riverhead, the strawberry fields opened for picking on June 1. The season is expected to run until June 25 or until the berries last.

This year, in addition to select weekdays and weekends, the farm introduced ‘twilight’ U-pick sessions from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings, making it a perfect family after-school or date night after-work activity. (We recommend bringing a picnic dinner to enjoy on their grassy lawn!)

The strawberry field and farm shop is open on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Is it just us, or do they taste a bit sweeter when you pick them yourself?
