Temperatures hit 90 degrees early last week which means one thing and one thing only: let the summer beach days begin.

Whether you prefer the gentle, majestic Peconic Bay or the cooling, rocky Long Island Sound beaches, there’s no shortage of sandy spots to pitch your beach umbrella, lay out your towel, catch up on a summer read and go for a dip.

We recently beat the heat at South Jamesport Beach in Riverhead as late afternoon beachgoers enjoyed playing in the sand, a round of beach volleyball and laying in the sun.

The water was glistening and we even caught some beautiful beach roses in bloom.
