Spring is a great time of year to visit the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead.

Located downtown, it’s a family-favorite spot that offers the chance to see playful seals, colorful reefs and even an indoor butterfly exhibition.

Our favorite spots are the stingray touch tank in the lobby area and getting to see California sea lions Java, Bunker, Nila and Lucy steal the show during daily training sessions.

If you’re planning a visit, make sure to include a stop at their newest attraction, the Eye Opener. It’s a five-story wooden treehouse playground that has stunning views of the Peconic River from the top. For more information, visit their website.
