There’s no off-season for good ice cream.
Even though we’re in the midst of a February cold spell, Magic Fountain in Mattituck is busy as ever. The North Fork mainstay, known for its fabulously creative flavors, is open year-round and is now open seven days a week for anyone craving a frozen sweet treat.
Owner Choudry Ali recently spoke with northforker about the most popular items currently on the ever-changing menu, including beloved mainstays and some exciting new offerings.
“I’ve been doing this for years,” said Ali. “As you’re making something you think about changing it up and using new ingredients. A lot of customers are also very helpful and come up with ideas.”
Ali also lets his staff come up with new concoctions. “The kids that work at the store come up with some crazy flavors,” he said. “We’ll make it in a small batch and test it out before we make the final product.”

Grab a pint to go
New to Magic Fountain are pre-packaged pints ready to grab and go. “Since we’ve been short on help, we can’t make [custom] pints anymore so this was the solution,” said Ali. The pints, which contain all of Magic Fountain’s current flavors, have proven very popular with customers. Pre-packaged quarts are also available upon request.
Can’t decide? Try ’em all
Whether you have a bunch of favorites or want to try a variety of Magic Fountain’s flavors, one of the most popular items is the 12-flavor sampler tray. You can either pick a sampler from the freezer or order a custom sampler online. “These are going like hotcakes,” Ali said.
