Pizza with caramelized pepperoni. Double Kobe smash burgers. Iberico ham. Smoked fish. These are just a few of the items you can savor at the delectably varied new restaurants that have opened this year across the North Fork.

The Hook & Net clam shack opened in Greenport over the summer with smoked fish, fresh ceviche and local clams.

Southold General, a cafe and gourmet market with fare by French chef icon Francois Payard and Chef John Fraser (who led the successful reopening of North Fork Table & Inn) opened in August with the most indulgent and flavorful pizzas you could imagine, as well as gelato and French baked treats.

North Fork food stalwart Noah Schwartz took over the restaurant at The Chequit on Shelter Island in September and filled the menu with seafood dishes like tuna poke, scallion pancakes, shrimp with fried rice and land-based options like the double Kobe smash burger.

Wine and tapas bar Basso moved from its previous home in Greenport to a more permanent spot in Mattituck in September. Guests can enjoy small plates and wines, as well as buy fine foods (like Iberico ham by the ounce).

And those are just a few of the new spots — don’t forget Insatiable Eats Creative Kitchen in Riverhead and Alpina in Greenport. And we can’t wait for 2022, when we’ll be trying Filipino cuisine at Pookaberry Cafe in Mattituck, Luchacubano in Riverhead and many more.
