Tucked away in the headwaters of the Peconic River, the Cranberry Bog Nature Preserve (3675-3815 Lake Avenue, Riverhead) is a hidden gem.

The 165-acre preserve features an easy 1/2 mile walk around Sweezey’s Pond, where you’ll wander through marshes, bogs and wetlands and explore what was, at one time, the largest cranberry farm on Long Island, the Woodhull Bog.
