Basso, the wine, tapas and fine food market formerly of Greenport has reopened in Mattituck.

Previously, Basso operated for parts of seven years at multiple locations in Greenport and a pop-up in East Marion.

“It’s a better fit,” said owner Nick DeCillis of the new location, noting that he wanted a spot that was easier to manage year-round. “There’s more business here, you don’t have to worry about it dying. I’ve got tons of traffic [here].”

While Basso has moved, the offerings remain the same. Guests can enjoy wine, specialty meats, cheeses, crostinis, as well as buy retail products and take-out.

The shop’s grand reopening on Saturday, Sept. 25 was a rousing success.

“It was packed,” DeCillis said. “It was absolutely bedlam in here. A lot of to-go stuff, a lot of take-out, a lot of stuff off the shelves. It was good!”

One of the biggest hits so far is an iberico ham, available by the ounce.

DeCillis said that many of his Greenport regulars came by during the grand opening and were happy about the new store.

“We didn’t have a lot of locals in Greenport,” he explained. “They’d come from Mattituck or Jamesport or Cutchogue and Southold, where they have weekend houses. Here I have more of a local crowd. People are already calling up and asking when I’m going to do this and that again. It’s the same, but a little better. And busier!”

Basso is located at 10200 Main Road, Mattituck. It will be open Wednesday through Sunday.
