The fireworks celebrations began early on Long Island this year as places like Jones Beach celebrated with special shows in June to commemorate the state hitting its vaccination goal.
But that doesn’t mean this July Fourth will be more subdued than in the past. Sure, some fireworks celebrations have been canceled, but others will go on.
Here’s a roundup of some events to look forward to from a North Fork festival to yoga in the vines (and with goats) and some fireworks in between.
Fireworks
Riverhead Alive on 25
When: Thursday, July 1, 9:15 p.m.
What to know: Start the weekend early with Alive on 25, a free summer street festival to bolster local restaurants and shops. The festival itself runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. And on July 1, it will be punctuated by the downtown’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display at 9:15 p.m.
Orient Harbor Independence Day Fireworks
When: Saturday, July 3, 9:15 p.m.
What to know: Organizers are raising money to resume this Long Island fireworks tradition. If Mother Nature spoils the show, the rain date is set for Aug. 7. More information.
Jones Beach Fireworks Spectacular
When: Sunday, July 4, 9:30 p.m.
What to know: Patriotic tunes will provide the soundtrack to the fireworks spectacular.Many spectators watch the show from the parking lot, but those looking for an experience that epitomizes Long Island’s nautical charm can hop aboard the Island Princess Captree Fishing Boat and view it from the water. Village of Port Jefferson: Waterview Fireworks Spectacular
When: Sunday, July 4, 7 to 9 p.m.
What to know: Live music, a buffet that includes burgers, hot dogs and corn on the cob and a dramatic fireworks display over the Long Island Sound highlight this Fourth of July celebration. Reservations are required. More information.
Central Islip: Long Island Ducks Fireworks Spectaculars
When: Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4 following the Ducks games
What to know: Head out to the ballgame. Whether you buy peanuts and crackerjacks is entirely up to you, but you’ll want to stick around for fireworks. The Ducks will put on a pair of displays following their games with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. First pitch for both games is set for 6:35 p.m. More information.

Harbes Family Farm Fourth of July Weekend Celebration, Mattituck
When: July 3-5, 10 a.m.
What to know: Pool parties and beach days are old standbys for Fourth of July fun on Long Island, but this popular North Fork farm is offering a change of scenery. Enjoy live music, adorable farm animals and pig races. Adults can sip wine in the tasting house situated in Harbes’ century-old barn. More information.
