The wait for Greenport’s popular Dances in the Park series will be extended an additional month, but the music will return in August.

Greenport Village officials said last week that an abbreviated version of the Mitchell Park series will kick off Monday, Aug. 2 and continue for five weeks through Aug. 30. It previously had run on Mondays in both July and August.

Dances in the Park is hosted by Friends of Mitchell Park and features a different musical act each week. It attracts hundreds of visitors and locals to the park, many of whom pair the entertainment with visits to local restaurants. Outdoor dining will also be in place those weeks, with the parklets that expanded dining last summer returning this week.

Greenport will also host a pair of boating attractions this summer. Tall ship Nao Santa María, which last visited Greenport in the fall of 2019, is planning to return from June 17 to 20, village officials have announced. Free tours were given to local students last time the ship docked at Mitchell Park Marina.

A specially fitted catamaran called the Impossible Dream is also expected to dock in the village from June 30 to July 2, after a brief stop here last summer. The barrier-free yacht was designed to be accessible for all and gives people with disabilities the opportunity to experience the open waters.

Many visitors to Greenport Village have also asked about the return of Maritime Festival. While no official announcement has been made, the popular event is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 18 and 19. Organizers told The Suffolk Times they are optimistic it will go on as planned.
