Let’s face it, baby animals are hard to resist. They’re cute and fluffy and oh, so adorable. And thanks to pandemic impulse buys by people with extra time on their hands, sales of baby chicks in the East End were up 100% in 2020. But whether it’s chicks or another barnyard friend (hop on northforker.com tomorrow to read about North Forkers who have adopted goats!), raising a farm animal requires a lot of care and attention.

Freelancer Cailin Riley recently wrote a story for northforker magazine about her experience with adopting chicks during the pandemic and no detail was spared, even the highly emotional ones.

Tune into this week’s podcast to hear northforker staffer Michelina Da Fonte chat more with Cailin Riley about the ins and outs of backyard chicken raising.
