When it comes to eating out, vegans deserve more than just a sad salad. Luckily, on the farm-rich North Fork, there are a number of inventive restaurant menu options that cater to those who don’t eat meat or dairy. These are some of our favorites. Omnivores will leave satisfied, too!

Hampton Coffee Company

Made with a plant-based egg, Beyond Meat breakfast sausage, and Field Roast vegan cheese served on freshly made ciabatta, Hampton Coffee’s vegan egg sandwich hits all the right notes. The egg isn’t spongy, the cheese melts well and the sausage could almost be mistaken for the real thing.

Hampton Coffee Company is located at 272 Main Road in Aquebogue.

Goodfood.

Dressed up with hummus, avocado, cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes and arugula, the vegan sandwich at Goodfood packs a punch. Because hummus is a good form of protein, you won’t be hungry after eating this sammie.  Instead, it leaves you feeling refreshed and refueled.

Goodfood. is located at 535 Pike Street in Mattituck.

The Olive Branch

So much of The Olive Branch’s menu is vegan. Many of the cold and warm appetizers are naturally made without animal products. A staff favorite is the olive dip, but the eggplant Istanbul is a close second. For the entrée, the vegan dinner is a must — seasonal vegetables lightly sauteed with herbs in a red wine tomato sauce and served over Jasmine rice.

The Olive Branch is located at 120 Front Street in Greenport.

Turkuaz Grill

The spicy mashed vegetables are definitely a hidden gem on the Turkuaz Grill menu. Minced tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic, walnuts, olive oil, lemon juice and spices come together perfectly as a dip-like spread that tastes oh-so-delicious on the warm pita bread. Pair that with the grape leaves stuffed with rice, onion, currant, pine nuts and spices and the first course is covered. Finish off with the falafel and the whole dinner is vegan!

Turkuaz Grill is located at 40 McDermott Avenue in Riverhead.

Magic Fountain

Yes, even ice cream lovers can find vegan options on the North Fork. Try the mango passion, made with an almond milk base, mangos and passion fruit. Or go a more chocolaty route with the coffee almond fudge or funky monkey (peanut butter, banana and fudge.)

Magic Fountain is located at 9825 Main Road in Mattituck.

Bistro 72

This restaurant, located in the Hotel Indigo East End, has a few vegan items featured on their menu. The avocado mash with Serrano chili, salsa roja, herb salad and crispy tortilla makes a perfect first course. Stirling Sake

Although this Japanese restaurant is most well-known for its fish, Stirling Sake has a few vegan features. The vegan noodles (you can choose shirataki, udon or soba) come with seasonal vegetables and shiitake in a konbu dashi broth. They also have vegetable rolls and a crispy, fried agedashi tofu dish that comes with ginger and scallion in a dashi broth.
