There are few things in this world more nostalgic than transforming your home into a holiday wonderland, complete with lights, cheerful decorations and of course, a tree. On the North Fork, there are tons of local shops and businesses that sell handmade and vintage decor perfect for this time of year. Here’s how to decorate your home for the holidays, North Fork style.

Local wreaths

Many of the nurseries and greenhouses on the North Fork are staying open through Christmas, giving you an opportunity to fill your house with fresh greenery. Backyard Blooms in Riverhead has wreaths for sale at their roadside stand and is also offering workshops to show you how to make your own throughout the season. Shades Trees Nursery is making custom wreaths to fit anyone’s style and Pierpont Blossom Farms has simple wreaths for the minimalist.

Vintage Sleds

Step up your decor game by picking up one of these decorated vintage sleds from Small Holdings Farm. It’ll go perfectly outside next to the front door or inside next to a fireplace. While you’re there, get yourself some vintage Christmas bulbs, a festive sign or browse their other holiday antiques.

Handmade wood trees

For something a little bit different, but 100 percent North Fork, check out In the Attic’s new Peconic location for their wooden holiday trees. The material is reclaimed pallet wood from their neighbors, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company, and you can get them in just about any color.

Handmade ornaments

For a curated selection of cute, handmade ornaments, the Weathered Barn in Greenport is the perfect place. From a hand sewn heart ornament to a hand painted porcelain wreath ornament to a lightbulb converted into a planter ornament, your tree will be filled with gorgeous holiday decor. While you’re there, pickup some of their gingerbread scone mix or frankincense and myrrh shea butter soap for gifts (or just for yourself).
