Each week, we will be spotlighting a different farm stand on the North Fork. Catapano Dairy Farm is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but they close Tuesday and Thursday beginning October 1.

Name: Catapano Dairy Farm

History: The farm opened in 2003 at a smaller location in Mattituck, starting with 18 goats. During their second year, they entered the American Cheese Society Annual National Competition and came in first place. Once word got out, they knew their tiny herd wasn’t going to be able to produce enough milk to sustain an increase in demand. So, they moved to their current location in 2005 and slowly increased the number of goats to about 100. The farm closes for the winter season, as the Does stop milking shortly after getting impregnated, and resume milking in the spring after the kids are born.

What they are offering: Chevre (soft, fresh goat cheese), aged cheese, feta and yogurts, skin care products made from goat’s milk
