If you’re looking for a socially distant way to get outside and enjoy the North Fork, there’s a new kind of drive-thru that might be just for you.

Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue is launching a drive-thru animal tour starting on Saturday, June 20. As a collaboration between Neptune Feed and Saddlery and Long Island Equine Trail, this fundraiser is a way to allow the public to connect with the horses from the safety of their car and help to financially support the rescues during a time when they have been hit hard.

“We’ve had to pivot our barn operations to be able to offer our services while keeping everyone safe,” Marisa Striano, founder of Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue, said in a statement announcing the initiative. “We are committed to continue to work together to bring the equine community to every household.”

The drive thru will consist of families having a 30-minute time slot where they will stay in their car while having access to a digital map on their smartphones. This will show the animal’s history, photos and fun facts. Tickets are $28 a car for the early bird special or $32 for normal general admission. Time slots are available on Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. starting June 20 and going until the end of July.

The initiative is happening island-wide with North Shore Horse Rescue in Baiting Hollow also participating. Tickets for North Shore Horse Rescue go on sale June 14.
