On Wednesday, May 27, Cedars Golf Club and Movies in the Moonlight are sponsoring a drive-in movie night at Strawberry Fields Fairground on Route 48 in Mattituck. “The Goonies” will be playing on the big screen.

“We were just thinking of ways to do something during this time that is safe,” said Paul Pawlowski, owner of Cedars Golf Club. “It’s a good way to get people to do something different and still abide by all the rules of social distancing.”

Reservations are required for this free event, and with only 200 cars allowed, it sold out within the hour. Drive-in movies are among the activities allowed to open back up statewide effective May 15.

“We are offering this for free, and if people want to do anything, we’re saying to go donate to CAST,” Pawlowski said.

To keep everyone safe, attendees must remain in their car during the entire time. No restrooms or concessions will be available. If it proves to be successful, Pawlowski said they may hold more.

“We would definitely like to work something out long term,” he said. “This is solely just to give people something to do once, and if it works out, we would be more than happy to help facilitate this in the future with people.”

The gates to this free event will open at 7:30 p.m. with the movie starting right at dark.
