Each week, we will be spotlighting a different farm stand on the North Fork as more open up. Deep Roots Farm in Southold is open year-round, 7 days a week, whenever the sun is up.

Name: Deep Roots Farm

Year founded: 2012

History: Deep Roots Farm, founded by Thomas Hart and his mother Michelle, started its first season with a small CSA as they fixed up their barn and garage to fashion it into a farm stand. The farm has always had an emphasis on sustainability, and they are constantly working towards that goal — economically, socially and environmentally. Their animals and crops are raised together to allow a mutual benefit. The animals fertilize the crops; the crops and weeds feed the animals. In 2019, they were honored by Slow Food East End with the Snail of Approval award for making “a commitment to good, clean and fair food through the support of sustainable agricultural practices.”

What they are offering: Their self-serve farm stand currently has fresh cut greens, herbs, flowers, eggs and vegetable plants for your gardens.

What they will offer: Once the season is in full swing, Deep Roots Farm will have over 100 varieties of vegetables and herbs. Each week, they will have something new. Chicken and pork will be available starting in May.
