Knocking on neighbors’ doors can be hit-or-miss on Halloween. Luckily, there are a handful of fun trick-or-treat events that go beyond a walk around the block.
From an afternoon of Halloween activities, to a food truck derby that even parents can enjoy, these are the places to take the kids to fill their bags.

The Shoppes at East Wind
Goblins and ghouls are welcome to don their best costumes on the hunt for treats at the Shoppes at East Wind on Halloween day, which falls on Thursday this year. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. the shops will have candy for the kids. Be sure to check out the festive scarecrows while you’re there. Free admission. The event is rain or shine.

Halloween Fest in downtown Riverhead
Why limit trick-or-treating to a couple hours after school? Halloween Fest in downtown lets kids can fill their bags at the shops along Main Street from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26. Stick around for the grand costume parade at 7 p.m. The three-day festival also features coffin races and a children’s costume party at the Long Island Aquarium.

Food Truck Derby at Hallockville Museum Farm
This event isn’t just for the kids. The Food Truck Derby at Hallockville Museum Farm on Saturday, Oct. 26 has great eats for all ages, plus brews for mom and dad. Participants include Eat Me Drink Me Truck, Island Empanada,North Fork Doughnut Co., Moustache Brewing Co. and more. Kids are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes to “Truck-or-Treat” during the Derby. The event is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $7 per adult. All proceeds of ticket sales will be donated to the non-profit museum farm.

Greenport Village Halloween Parade
Get dressed up for the annual Halloween Parade in Greenport Village on Saturday, Oct. 26. The family-friendly march starts at 9 a.m. in front of Floyd Memorial Library and ends at Mitchell Park. Along the way, there will be trick-or-treating at local businesses.

Halloween weekend for people and pets
If you’re babies happen to be four-legged, Greenport Harbor Brewery is the place to be for Halloween.
On Saturday, Oct. 26 the brewery is hosting its annual Halloween costume party for people from 7 to 11 p.m, featuring music by DJ Biggie, dancing and contests (with prizes) for the best individual costume and best group costume.
