Located in historic Old Brookville, 127-year-old old Youngs Farm keeps the practice of homegrown agriculture alive and well in Nassau County. Founded in 1893, the operation is run by fourth and fifth generation Youngs Family farmers who practice sustainability growing methods.

Nearly everything found at its rustic farm stand is grown or produced on site, from vegetables and fruit to housemade from scratch pies, breads, cookies, muffins and biscuits. Youngs Farm also offers a selection of soups, savory pies, dips and quiches along with jams and preserves, plus traditional candies as well as housewares and hostess gifts.

“Everything that we bake is made on site,” said Tim Dooley, manager of Youngs Farm. “We are really known for our pies. They are popular in the summer and into the fall and winter. We are more than a farm, we have a full kitchen plus housewares and gift items … It is a unique place to shop.”

Lovers of the North Fork can also find some of their favorite farms represented at Youngs. The Old Brookville farm stand sells goods from other Long Island farms, such as Schmitt’s Family Farm in Riverhead, Wickham Fruit Farm in Cutchogue and Fox Hollow Farm in Calverton.

“We are a small farm and we like to support other small farms,” Dooley said. “We grow a wide variety of crops, up to 40 to 50. For that which we do not grow, we drive out to the North Fork and support farms there. If not everyday then every other day, we’ll go out to supplement what we are producing.”

Right now Youngs Farm’s produce selection includes peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, beets, lettuce, and more.

Youngs Farm, located at 91 Hegemans Lane, Old Brookville, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Mondays.
