A new décor and design shop, Fez & Ivy, has arrived in Southold. Interior designer and Greenport resident Laura O’Brien is offering a chic blend of traditional American antiques and vintage home accessories and furniture, along with globally inspired goods at her Main Road storefront.

“Fez is symbolic for the global inspiration of the rugs and wallpapers, etc.,” said O’Brien, referring to the city in Morocco called Fez, as well as the Turkish traditional hat. “Ivy is for the traditional Americana of the locally sourced antiques and vintage items and accessories.”

In addition to her background in interior design, O’Brien has worked in visuals and merchandising with clothing company Anthropologie, as well as in design for the hospitality company, Rockwell Group. She also has experience in sales of architectural surfaces, such as tiles, stone, rugs and wood flooring to interior designers for commercial projects.

“I’ve always been interested in doing my own space and my own store so now I do a mix of home  and I also do interior design,” said O’Brien, who grew up in Glen Cove and as a child spent summers in Jamesport.

Her antique and vintage inventory comes mostly from estate sales on the North Fork and from upstate New York antiquing trips and flea markets.

“I look for what I like,” said O’Brien, “for what I would put in my own home—even if it doesn’t fit in my house, but I know I would, if I had the right house for it.”

Fez & Ivy’s main focus is antiques, wallpaper and vintage rugs, but also has gift items such as soap, candles, bath products, planters, lanterns, notecards and jewelry, which O’Brien says she plans on expanding. She also offers interior design services at Fez & Ivy, consulting with homeowners and sourcing items for them.

Fez & Ivy is the lastest décor shop to arrive in Southold. In recent years, the Main Road has become a hub for home goods shopping, with longtime favorites such as White Flower Farmhouse and touchGOODS being joined by newcomers Nicolette’s for the Home and Pearl Cottage in recent months.

Fez & Ivy is located at 53800 Main Rd in Southold, and is open Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
