Dog-friendly wineries on the North Fork

We get it, your fur baby is part of the family and there’s no reason Fido should have to stay at home with puppy eyes while you explore the North Fork’s wineries and vineyards.

Here are nine dog-friendly vineyards that welcome man’s best friend to come along for the ride.

Palmer Vineyards

This Riverhead winery, that welcomes leashed dogs outside on the lawn, provides a beautiful view overlooking 49 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards. Visit Palmer Vineyards every Friday night through October for their Welcome to the Weekend gatherings where they stay open until 9 p.m. and offer live music, food trucks and glass specials.

Newly opened in May at the former Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead, RGNY is taking a new approach to wine through more immersive experiences and events. Feel free to bring along your furry friends, as long as they are leashed and on the lawn dogs are welcome to join in on the fun. The family-friend vineyard offers plenty of outdoor fun, including corn hole, Uno and Jenga.

Fido deserves to watch breathtaking sunsets over the rural setting of Oregon Road too, and the view at Lieb Cellars provides just that along with hand-harvested, estate wines. Dogs are allowed on the patio as long as they are leashed and supervised.

Jason’s Vineyard

This Jamesport vineyard is not only pet friendly, but actually encourages you to bring your pup with you while you sip their boutique wines. In fact, this season Jason’s Vineyard staffers started an Instagram series called “Canines and Wines,” featuring photos of dogs that visit the vineyard to hang alongside their wine-tasting owners. The series is already up to nine photos with a goal of promoting Jason’s Vineyard being a dog friendly space.

Shinn Estate Vineyards

Tucked away on Oregon Road in Mattituck is a family-owned boutique vineyard that practices biodynamic farming and welcomes leashed pets.  Dogs are allowed not only on the outside patio that looks onto the 25-acre vineyard, but also in the recently renovated tasting barn, which is the perfect spot to cozy up in on a rainy summer day.

The Lenz Winery

Leashed dogs are welcomed inside the tasting room and in the courtyard at this Peconic winery. Lenz, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is one of the founding vineyards on the North Fork, has a friendly staff that rolls out the red carpet for pups — dog treats are usually provided. The winery also has cheese boards for human snacking.

The Lenz Winery is located at 38355 Main Rd, Peconic; 631-734-6010

Macari Vineyards

Bring your pup along to sample award-winning wines at Macari Vineyards in Mattituck. The rustic tasting room serves wines by the flight, glass or bottle along with plenty of provisions to snack on. Leashed dogs are welcomed in the tasting room, but we suggest grabbing a spot outside overlooking the scenic vineyards.
